Venture Frogs Internet Restaurant Logs on to the San Francisco Scene

New restaurant embraces dot-com culture with designer food

It seems the dot-com world has infiltrated every aspect of our daily lives except for the sacred dining experience. Not so any longer. Tony Hsieh and Alfred Lin want to make sure that changes. Newly opened in the Historic Marquee building on Van Ness, their Venture Frogs Restaurant combines the experience of a playful night out on the town with the eccentric energy of an Internet start-up.

Hong Kong movie star Leslie Cheung has had it all—success as a pop music sensation, and critical kudos as the lead actor who takes chances in Chen Kaige’s Farewell My Concubine and Wong Kar-wai’s Happy Together. He takes another chance with Double Tap, a new Hong Kong action film directed by Chi Leung Law, which gets its U.S. premiere at the 4 Star Theatre’s fourth annual Asian Film Festival. Like Cheung, flirting with artistically ambitious projects as well as crowd-pleasers, Double Tap plays it both ways. Rife with anxiety about gun violence yet ready to shoot to thrill, the movie is an ambitious, arty homage and critique of the ultra-violent films that drew many American movie fans to Hong Kong cinema in the first place.
