Voices: The Political Grand Slam — Hold the Applause

July 2000 will go down in history as the month that major milestones were recorded by Asian Americans Tiger Woods and Norm Mineta. Woods just won the British Open, one of four major golf tournaments in the world. Earlier, he also won the PGA, U.S. Open and Masters, thus capturing the “golf grand-slam.”

Mineta, over a longer span of time, achieved the personal “political grand slam” by his historic appointment as America’s first cabinet member of Asian ancestry.
