Most Date-Able

Sexy, Single, Sizzling: Featured in the July 2, 2001 issue of People Magazine, alongside the likes of George Clooney, Matt Damon, and Russell Crowe, is none other than San Francisco’s own Dale Minami — as one of America’s Top 50 Bachelors. Minami, a lawyer and long-time activist in the civil rights arena, is a native of Gardena, Calif., and graduate of U.S.C. and U.C. Berkeley’s Law School. Minami, who confesses he doesn’t like to date women taller than him, “has no problem getting dates,” says Olympic skater, Kristi Yamaguchi, one of his star clients. Will Minami’s new-found fame change the humble attorney? Friends say they doubt it.

Par-Li Vous Francais? World-renowned martial arts master and Asian film star, Jet Li joins forces with visionary filmmaker Luc Besson (The Professional, The Fifth Element) in Kiss of the Dragon (20th Century Fox), set to open at theaters on July 6. Li plays a top Chinese government agent, sent to Paris from Shanghai to carry out a sensitive, top-secret mission that turns deadly. Kiss is based on a story by Li, who was born in Beijing and began studying the art of Wushu at the tender age of eight. He won his first national championship at 11 and was four-time All-Around National Wushu Champion of China until his retirement at age 17. Shortly thereafter, Li found instant movie stardom with his first film, Shaolin Temple. After starring in 25 successful films in Hong Kong and China, Li burst into Hollywood in 1998 with his first English-language film appearance in Lethal Weapon IV. Following Kiss, Li began production on the action-thriller The First King, a film that promises to combine suspense,

action and thriller elements depicted in such films as Indiana Jones and The Mummy. Not one to relax, Li has also teamed with Mel Gibson’s Icon Productions to produce a martial arts television series titled Invincible, which features the ancient art of Wushu and spectacularly-choreographed action sequences in the Hong Kong filmmaking style.

Goodbye Broadway: After her big break in the title role of Kim in the Broadway pop musical, Miss Saigon (1992), Jennifer Paz is ready to show off her musical talent in her newly released debut solo album, JenniferPaz.com. Seattle native Paz, born in Manila, Philippines, offers a collection of catchy pop/urban/dance grooves with an edgy, youthful vibe in this two-year-long labor of love. “I went through a lot of challenges in the process, which quite frankly made for some great inspiration,” states Paz. When not recording, Paz is making her Hollywood rounds as an actor. She recently starred in the pre-Broadway workshop of David Henry Hwang’s newly-adapted Broadway revival of Flower Drum Song, which will premier in Los Angeles in the fall before heading to Broadway.
