AMERIE: THE B-WORD WAS BANNED AT HOME

Amerie

Boyfriend, that is. Amerie, daughter of an African American father and a Korean mother, was not allowed to call any of her “really, really good friends” her boyfriend. “My mom is very traditional, and she didn’t understand the concept of dating,” she told Female First UK. “She didn’t understand why I’d ever want to call someone a boyfriend. It was a bad word in our house.” The rule still applies today, apparently, as Amerie admits that mom still only refers to them as close friends. Okay, then: perhaps “weekly sleepover buddy” is more accurate?

BLINK AND IT’S GONE

B.D. Wong breezed into town on August 5 for the Richmond/ERMET AIDS Foundation’s benefit concert and gala. New Zealander Lucy Lawless, still spunky from the Human Rights Campaign gala, also performed at the Palace of Fine Arts Theater, along with Joey McIntyre, Kimberly Locke, Hairspray’s Marrisa Jaret Winokur and Shaun Cassidy.

COMING SOON

Robert De Niro is gearing up to make the new Mao Zedong biopic. … Hong Kong-born New Zealand singer (and South Park guest star) Wing astounds SF on August 21 at Café du Nord: bring earplugs and keep your small lapdogs at home …

TRIVIA:
A Hong Kong man paid $5,000 (U.S.) for a car license plate that reads “BRUCELEE,” after the late kung fu movie star.

“When I studied in England, foreigners would only know two Chinese people. One is Bruce Lee. The other is Chairman Mao [Zedong],” said the buyer, identified only by his surname, Wong.

QUOTE:

“I can tell my grandchildren, ‘This is your grandfather. This is me. That’s not a double flying around the Eiffel Tower in 100-mile-per-hour winds.’”

Jackie Chan dishes the real reason why he doesn’t believe in stunt doubles

THE NEW WIFE OF BATH

Is it literary or blasphemy? Chaucer may spin in his grave when Nicolas Cage and Korean American wife, Alice Kim, dub Midford Castle their new home. Nic purchased the 18th century gothic castle near Bath, England, for nearly $10 million, according to Female First UK. Is it a coincidence that there’s a sudden Hollywood exodus to the UK ever since the Beckhams moved in? Heidi Klum hasn’t exactly been a fan of her new Brit neighbors either — perhaps there’s another 60-acre estate with an orangery, cottages, crumbling chapels and fox hunts in her future, too?
